Meet the Developers

Pat Simonetta

Hi, my name is Pat and I love developing film! I sometimes think I was born in the wrong time period… I listen to vinyl and develop my own photos.

I started shooting film two years ago and loved the images I got back. They weren’t ground breaking, eye catching bangers. They were just places I wanted to take photos… but what I loved was how they looked, how they were physical and didn’t live as data on my phone.

I started noticing that my images looked different each time I got them back from the lab I was using at the time. There would be multiple images that were taken at the same place, with the same settings but the colors were all different. I thought to myself “are they editing my film?” It was then and there that I wanted the power to edit my film if I wanted to. Anyway, all to say I bought a couple Patterson Tanks online and started developing at home. I had friends who wanted me to develop for them and then a wedding photographer. It went from a hobby to potential business rather quickly.

I’m constantly thinking about whats next. What I envision the lab to be and the space its in. Right now, I’m hoping you’ll give us a chance, believe in our product and our experience to develop & scan film. Thank you.

I’m Chris, and my journey with film photography started with enjoying a simple point and shoot but led to repairing light seals on an old camera. Repairing cameras became a doorway into a new passion, and before long I was learning to develop film with my friend Pat. For me, film is less about the perfect image and more about soul. It transforms snapshots into something textured and nostalgic, closer to memory than high definition. The sense of discovery in new cameras, film stocks, and developing keeps me hooked, and I’m glad to be part of a community in Happy Valley that shares in the joy (and occasional surprises) of film photography.

Of course, no about page would be complete without sharing favorites. My “favorite” film is usually just the next one I get my hands on, though I have a soft spot for quirky expired stocks with a mind of their own. If pressed to choose, I’d probably say Ektachrome. As for cameras, rangefinders are my go-to, and if you spot me out and about, chances are I’ll be carrying my Konica Pearl II or Olympus XA.
